Our day is coming up to serve the meal at Dorothy Day Hospitality
House. Our church is in charge of the 1st Friday on even numbered months. That means we are responsible for just 6 days out of the whole year.
We are blessed to have Dorothy Day in our area to serve those less fortunate than ourselves. Our team of volunteers would like to encourage new people to give it a try. We have two different shifts to choose from if you can’t stay the whole time. We will be working on Friday, April 5th from 1-3:30 or 3:00 – 5:30.
The first shift is busy with preparing to serve the meal. We wrap silverware, make sandwiches (for bagged meals to go), set tables, sort donated bread, help prepare the meal, make juice, cut desserts and get the coffee ready. Our second shift is focused on serving our guests. We begin with prayer and open the doors at 3:15. We deliver the meals and drinks to each guest at their table. Seconds are normal for our guests for whom this could be their only hot meal of the day. We finish serving at 4:45 and clean up before heading home.
Serving at Dorothy Day is a wonderful way to be the hands and feet of Christ, serving those in
need. Please let us know if you have any questions or would like some more information.
Next Opportunity will be Friday, April 5th.
