Local Outreach

One of the most important values we hold as a church is service to others. Our Mission Team is instrumental in keeping the congregation informed about the needs in our community, the wider Danbury area, and the world. Although we are a small church, we give with big hearts to help those in need. Our church supports a number of local nonprofit organizations throughout the year. In addition, whenever emergencies arise the response is always overwhelming.
Here are some of the ways we reach out locally:

  • Food Baskets are provided at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter to families in our community and surrounding towns. These baskets not only contain the ingredients for a special holiday meal, but for at least two additional meals.

  • Christmas Gifts – To help make Christmas special members of our congregation provide Christmas gifts for people and families in need, and for homeless teens. The names of the recipients, which are anonymous, are provided by the New Fairfield Social Worker, Alternative Center for Education, and Interfaith Aids.
  • Coats/Hats/Gloves/Socks – Each year our congregation collects these items during the autumn. Some of these items are given out on Thanksgiving morning. Church members help to serve those in need a thanksgiving dinner and distribute warm coats, hats, and gloves. These items are also distributed through Dorothy Day Hospitality House and Association of Religious Communities (ARC).
  • ARC – Association of Religious Communities is a nonprofit organization that facilitates interfaith cooperation and other partnerships to alleviate the causes of violence suffering and hatred while advancing peace, justice and human dignity.” We support a number of ARC’s programs, such as Peace Camp, the Domestic Violence Prevention, and “Comida” the food pantry. Besides monetary support, we provide items such as hats, gloves, and socks, we contribute raffle baskets for fund raisers and host a table at the Peace Camp breakfast. In addition, our Middle School Youth Group provides and bags hundreds of lbs of rice and bean for Comida. To learn more about the work of ARC go to http://www.arcforpeace.org/index.htm
  • Dorothy Day Hospitality House is a nonprofit that provides breakfast, lunch, and an overnight shelter for the homeless and working poor. All services at Dorothy Day are provided by volunteers. Our DD team serves a hot nutritious meal on the fourth Wednesday of each month. If you are interested in volunteering please call the church office at 203-746-2865.   • Ann’s Place is a compassionate nonprofit serving those with cancer in Connecticut and Hudson Valley New York with professional counseling, support groups, wellness activities and educational resources. Ann’s Place serves over 950 active clients of all ages, with all types of cancer. There is no charge for both for those with cancer as well as their loved ones who are caring for them. Besides special offerings, our Women’s Ministry group decorates and donates a Christmas tree for Ann’s Place “Festival of Trees” each Christmas season.   • Regional Hospice & Home Care has been providing caring end-of-life services to our community since 1995. They have successfully helped thousands of patients live out their remaining days in the comfort of their own home or nursing care facility with peace and dignity and have supported their families emotionally or spiritually. Additionally, after years of careful consideration and planning, Regional Hospice has built the state’s first and only state-of-the-art private suite hospice center.   • Some of the other Local Organizations we support are: New Fairfield Fuel Bank, Dressed for Success, Renewal House, UCC Silver Lake Conference Center, Westconn Ministries, and Habitat for Humanity.

Wider Church Outreach

Our Youth groups also work on projects to support the work of Simply Smiles, which is ministry that supports the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe (CRST) Reservation in South Dakota. To learn more about Simply Smiles go to http://www.simplysmiles.org/
